Privacy policy for Curtain Calls
Last updated 18 October 2026
Curtain Calls (formerly Show Report Timer) is an app for technicians working shows at the Hazlitt Theatre and Exchange Studio in Maidstone. It times each show, sends reminders, and keeps a record of show reports. It's run by Oliver Meyern, one of the theatre's technicians. This page explains what the app stores about you and why.
What the app stores
- Your account: your name, email address and password. Your password is handled by Google's Firebase sign-in service, and the app never sees or stores it.
- Your role: whether you're waiting for approval, a technician or an admin.
- Show reports: when you open the Google Form from the app, a copy of that report is saved, including show times, dB readings, notes you've written, and your name as the sender.
- Shared shows: while you're working a show with other technicians, the show's times and report are shared between your phones, along with your name so the others can see who's on.
- On your phone only: the show you're working, your settings, and any shows in progress. These stay on your device.
The app doesn't use advertising, doesn't track you across other apps or websites, and doesn't collect your location.
The website
- Admin portal: admins sign in with the same account as the app. It shows the team, schedule, reports and screens described on this page.
- Tonight page and dock screens: these show show names and running times only, with no names of staff.
- Screen check-ins: each dock or green room screen tells the portal it's working about once a minute: the screen's name, venue, browser type and screen size. Nothing about the people watching it.
- Cookies and storage: the website only keeps what it needs to keep you signed in (stored in your browser by Firebase). There are no advertising or analytics cookies and no tracking, so there's no cookie banner. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your browser's IP address when a page loads.
Who it's for
The app and portal are for theatre staff. They aren't intended for children under 13.
Why it's stored
To let approved technicians sign in, to share the show schedule and live show timings between the team, and to keep a record of show reports for the theatre.
Who can see it
- Admins (the people who manage the app) can see the team list, everyone's name and email, and every report.
- Technicians can see the schedule, the reports they've sent, and the names of others on a shared show.
- Your information isn't sold or shared with anyone else.
Where it's kept
Everything except what stays on your phone is stored with Google Firebase, in their London data centre (europe-west2). Google processes it on the app's behalf under Firebase's privacy and security terms.
Show reports are also sent to the theatre's Google Form when you submit it there, as part of normal work.
Notifications
Show reminders (like bar open, the Half, and interval calls) are created on your phone. Admins can also get alerts when someone signs up. You can turn notifications off at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
How long it's kept
Your account stays until you delete it or an admin removes you. Show reports are kept as the theatre's show records.
Deleting your account
In the app, tap the person icon at the top left, then Delete my account. This permanently removes your login and your name from the team. Reports you've already sent stay as show records. To have those removed too, email the address below.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information held about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, under UK data protection law (UK GDPR). If you're unhappy with how your information is handled, you can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office.
